The short decision
Choose the Bambino BES450 if your priority is a straightforward espresso-and-manual-milk workflow with supplied single-wall and dual-wall basket options. Put the Dedica Duo EC890M on your shortlist if its cold-brew preset and touch controls are features you expect to use. Both need a separate grinder if your plan is to grind whole beans.
This is a comparison of manufacturer documentation, not a hands-on taste test. We have not measured shot consistency, steam speed or noise. The decision below is about supported features and how you would use them.
The verified differences
Manufacturer prices checked November 5, 2026 were $299.95 for the Bambino and $249.95 for the Dedica Duo. Retail prices can change; compare the current US offers before purchasing. The roughly $50 difference in those reference prices should be considered within the whole setup budget.

Why we are cautious about width
Breville’s current page labels its dimensions W×D×H but lists values in an order that conflicts with some retailer presentations. Rather than silently assign them a different order, verify the manual or ask Breville if a tight fit depends on a fraction of an inch. The Dedica Duo page specifies 13×5.9×12 inches as L×W×H.
For either machine, include operating space. You still need access to the water tank and drip tray, plus room to lock in the portafilter. Add a grinder footprint if you plan to buy one. A narrow body alone does not establish a usable station.

Which feature changes your morning?
If you want one hot milk drink, both candidates require you to engage with manual milk preparation. Do not mistake the standard Bambino for the Bambino Plus with automatic milk functionality. If you want a cold-brew preset as well as espresso, that is a concrete reason to investigate the Duo rather than paying for a feature you will ignore.
Neither model name tells you which coffee you will prefer. Keep your coffee, grinder and learning expectations separate from the controls. A programmable recipe is a workflow feature, not proof of a superior-tasting drink.
Spend the rest of the budget deliberately
Suppose your total station limit is $400. At the reference prices, a Bambino leaves about $100 and the Duo about $150 before tax, coffee or extras. Those are arithmetic examples, not complete recommended setups. Price any required grinder and missing essentials before committing.
If the finished basket exceeds your ceiling, change the plan rather than assuming accessories do not count. Recheck the selected model, included equipment and current purchase terms. The better choice is the complete setup you can afford, fit and use—not a brand-name winner declared without testing.
Try the choice against two real priorities
If your priority is learning a hot espresso recipe, list the basket and grinder arrangement you intend to use with each candidate. Compare the remaining budget and counter space before allowing a cold-drink preset to decide the purchase. If you regularly want the Duo’s extra recipe, that is a concrete reason to retain it in the comparison rather than dismissing it as an unnecessary feature.
If your priority is a quick shared-household routine, ask each user to describe the drink they expect to make and the cleanup they will perform. A machine that suits one person’s hobby but complicates everyone else’s breakfast may be the wrong household purchase. Decide which constraints are essential, which are preferences, and which can wait for a later upgrade.
